I'm Rica, your native Japanese teacher.
I was born and grown up in Yokohama, Japan, currently based in Japan and France, and a multilingual using four languages: Japanese, English, Chinese Mandarin, and French in my daily life.
I studied linguistics, Japanese education, and intercultural communication at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. During my studies, I started teaching Japanese to Indian children in my community, introduced Japanese culture to American children at a US military base, and served as a TA for Japanese classes at SUNY Albany during an exchange program.
After my studies, various travels, and working for multinational companies, now I teach Japanese to learners from various countries to help them live the life they want with passion from my heart.

My Story
It was when I was 14 that making my first American friend had let me discover the joy of communicating in a foreign language and the fascinating world of different cultures.
Since then, I’ve immersed myself in language studies, breaking out of conventional thinking and choosing my own path. Connecting with people, expanding work opportunities, and broadening my access to various information have all enriched my life.
I founded “Japanese with Rica” to help you experience the positive transformation in your life through learning Japanese, just as English transformed mine. Although Japanese has its unique aspects, working with me—having successfully learned foreign languages as a Japanese speaker—will make mastering Japanese achievable for you.

I was worried online would be difficult to learn from as it's been my experience in the past but I was very pleasantly surprised and since then we stick to online! After every class, Rica sends me slides of the new grammar we learnt including some sentences for me to translates as homework using the new and previous vocabulary/grammar.
The way classes work is purely oral practice.

Rica will ask me questions in order to create dialogue that I have to express in Japanese and the learning builds up from it.
She is soooo patient when I take ages to express my sentence because I'm searching for my words or structure. Very kind and friendly too, you won't feel pressured nor judged to be proficient.
Communication outside of class is clear and fast, she is very attentive and flexible. I'm a French speaker but we hold the class in English/Japanese as it's best for us both so I can't attest how it goes in French or Chinese/Japanese but I'm sure it works well too! Highly recommend!
